Trip-and-Fall Accident
Our client, a delivery man, suffered a severe back injury in a trip-and-fall accident at a customer plant. His injuries required two surgeries. Our client's employer's workers' compensation insurer paid for the surgeries, and a trial lasting two weeks resulted in a jury award of $620,000.
Assault and Traumatic Brain Injury
In this case, our client, a 16-year-old high-school student, was at a bus stop with a fellow student when an assailant assaulted him. The assailant stabbed our client in the temple with a screwdriver, which penetrated into his brain. The injury required extensive emergency surgery and months of hospitalization. Our firm was able to obtain a court judgment against the assailant for $1,170,000.
Wrongful Death
Our firm represented the widow of a man who drowned while at an all-inclusive resort off the coast of Mexico. Our client had been married to the victim for just three years and had two minor children. The resort had arranged for a boat to take twenty hotel guests snorkeling in the ocean. When the decedent had difficulty with the snorkeling gear, he attempted to get back into the boat, but he was unable to do so because the boat had no ladder. While attempting to swim 100 yards to a companion boat, the decedent drowned. We settled the case after just two days of mediation and were able to get $400,000 for our client and her children.
Patent & Royalty Licensing
In this case, our client was an engineer and scientist who designed a state-of-the-art power supply for computers. A small computer manufacturer and its company president licensed the design, but failed to pay the royalties provided under the contract, which were a percentage of the sales of the product. After one year of litigation and the deposition of the defendant's president and an in-house engineer, the case was settled. The settlement agreement provided for monthly payments of the back royalty fees owed to our client, based on the percentage of sales of our client's product. All in all, our client received over $1,050,000 over a three-year period, including $250,000 that had previously been earned but not paid. After we completed the case, our client continued to receive additional payments pursuant to the settlement.
